Book Review – A Little Me (Amy Roloff)

Hey Dearies! I know I haven’t started this year off on a good note with my posts, but not to worry! I’m working on getting back on schedule! So, I figured, why not start off with a book review?

So, I wanted to make a note that I started this book back in the middle of 2025, but I finally found my Kindle and was able to finish it, thankfully! I know you are probably wondering, what made me choose this book to read? Well, let me explain!

It started back when I first saw the show called Little People, Big World, which was a reality TV series that focused on a family with dwarfism and showed how they lived their everyday lives and how they were raising their kids on their family farm.

I’m not sure what or why, but I really enjoyed watching it, and when it happened to be on HBO Max, I figured, why not watch it all from the beginning? However, there was something that I really wanted to see, which was the downfall of Matt and Amy Roloff’s relationship because there was a rumor that Matt was having an affair with one of their employee’s who worked on their farm.

Of course, I was curious about what the show was going to show versus what Amy was going to say in her book.

After finishing the entire series, which had 25 seasons, you can start to tell where their relationship started to get very rocky. Mind you, when they started filming the series back in 2006. In the beginning, you don’t really notice the cracks and see how happy their little family is, however, the cracks start to show.

Reading Amy’s book gave me more of a backstory to how she grew up, and more importantly, you can see the growth from when she talks about being this shy little girl to how she is now, more outgoing and not afraid to speak up.

It also gave more of an inside on how she first met Mat,t and they very much rushed into getting married and then having their children shortly after. You can tell that she really loved Matt in the beginning of their marriage. They were very much complete opposites, but sometimes that can be like a blessing.

Anyway, she did mention the big fight that they had on one of their vacations, where they took a Mississippi River cruise. In the show, you see the kids reacting to their parents having a very heated argument, which wasn’t filmed. Amy talked about how Matt wanted to leave in the middle of their cruise to go back to the farm because he needed to be there, but Amy tried to convince him to stay and enjoy spending time with them all, but that didn’t happen.

I did do some Reddit searching on this, and there is a whole thread where people think that Amy found out about the affair on the Mississippi River cruise, which would explain why he would want to leave the cruise just to go back to the farm. However, in the book, Amy doesn’t really say exactly when she found out, but she does mention it.

However, you can tell that’s probably where the real crack in their relationship happened.

Moving on, she does talk about how hard it was to get divorced because she never thought she would be going through it. What I liked about this part of her novel is that she not only gets through it, but also works on herself to become the person she wanted to be.

I honestly loved that for her, granted her kids probably thought she was going through a midlife crisis, but she did what she needed to do to not only heal, but get ready for the next chapter in life.

Overall, I really read the novel to see if she had more to say about the affair, but not much was talked about other than that one part where she saw their messages. Honestly, it was interesting to know what the problems she had growing up, since on the show, you really only hear about Matt’s issues.

There was a lot of her repeating herself a few times, but I think we all have rambled at one point or another. I also liked her advice that she left at the end of the chapter, which some of them I highlighted and saved in my Kindle.

It was an interesting read, but I think only for those who are true fans of the show would be more eager to check it out. I am tempted to buy Amy’s cooking books since she really does have a passion for cooking, and it makes me want to make one of her recipes from her book.

Let me know in the comments if you have read her book or if you haven’t and what you think about it.
