“I can’t believe I’m going to do this,” James grunted, as I handed him his new daylight ring. He placed it back on his finger and glared at me. “If I burn into a million pieces, I’m coming back to haunt you.”
“James, she did it just the way I would of. I would be more worried about pissing her off.” Aunt Marie said as she smirked back at him. I always wondered if they had something going on? I can’t believe so after James caused Eli to died.
James then took a deep breath and slowly walked into the sunlight. I watched with fear, knowing that vampires can burn in the sunlight and I didn’t want another reason for my mother to hate me. I know she didn’t hate me, but deep down, she didn’t like what my brother and I were about to become.
James sat in the sun, not burning up and smiled. “It worked!” He exclaimed, he was like a little kid who had just seen snow for the first time. I smiled. I’m glad that it worked. He came up to me and hugged me. “Thank you so much! You have no idea how long I’ve spent in the shadows during the day.”
“Your welcome,” I said, as he released me. I looked over at Aunt Marie. “So, what’s next?”
She gave me a gentle smile. “Well, we have to get back on the road, now. I don’t want you guys to be seen by anyone with those markings on.” She said as we all got into the RV. I looked out the window and saw my parents arguing.
“Tanner, we need to go back home. I’ve been out of work for the past week and I-” My mother said, checking her phone, but my father interrupted.
“No, our children need us. I need you.” My father grabbed my mother’s hand, his eyes looked desperate. “Please, see if you can take another week off.”
“I can’t and I don’t want to! Tanner, don’t you see? Our children are turning into monsters and I don’t want to stand by and watch them died!” I was shocked that my mother even said that. “I love you, Tanner. I do, but I need to go.”
“Jade, it’s not safe for you to go home.” My father said as he held onto my mother’s hand. “Fuck your job, you can always find another one.”
“I don’t care, I’m going home. I want our normal lives back. You, the kids, and me.” She then paused. ” I wished you never went looking for your sister.” She pulled away from my father and opened one of the storage doors on the side of the RV and started heading to the bus station that was just across the street where we were parked.
My father started yelling for my mother, but she wouldn’t turn back around.
“Where’s Jade going?” James asked as my father came back onto the RV and shut the door.
“She’s going home.” My father sat down on at the table. “I tried to convince her to stay, but she won’t listen.” He looked at me and then over at Logan, grabbing each of our hands. “I’m not going anywhere. Where ever you need to go, I’m coming with you.”
As soon as our mother left, we kept driving. Since James and my Aunt Marie didn’t need to sleep, they took turns. James’ daylight ring was working perfectly fine. I made me glad that something I did, turned out just fine.
I looked out the window, after looking away from a few of the books we took from my Aunt’s house. We turned into a graveyard parking lot. As I kept looking forward, there was a giant tree, sitting in the middle of the graveyard.
I looked over at Logan and he was staring at it too. My Aunt Marie put the RV in the park. “Here we are.” She spoke as she smiled at both of us.
“Where are we?” I asked. Looking at the entrance of the graveyard gave me goosebumps.
“We are at the Witches Circle of Life. This is where all witches are safe from harm and also where you are both going to be working on the vampire cure.” I gave her a weird look as I noticed the tree was now glowing.
Logan and I quickly left the RV, as if we were drawn to it. I grabbed his hand as we looked forward at the now white leaf tree. We were about to start walking into the graveyard, but Aunt Marie stood in front of us, both.
“Wait, we need to talk before you go in there.” She said as I looked over at the tree and then back at her. “I can only be in there with you for a short amount of time if I drink this potion. If I go in there, I’ll only have about 4 hours or so to explain everything you need to know about it.”
“Then let’s go,” Logan said as he started to walk past the entrance.
“Logan, it’s not that simple. Once my 4 hours are up, you have to get me out of there. If I stay any longer, the older spirit witches can do whatever they want to me because I am a vampire.” She sighed. “I want to make sure that you guys know everything you need to know before going into there.”
Logan turned back around and looked at me. “When do you think we should go?” He asked as I thought about. The sooner we were in, the sooner we can figure out how to make the cure, but the longer it might take.
There was still so much that we both needed to know. More about vampires, about spells, about magic, and about our own kind. I looked over at Aunt Marie, I could tell she was worried about us going in there alone.
“How many days do you think we should wait? I asked. She thought about it but sadly came back.
“About a day or so, give or take. It depends if anyone knows you two exist.” She paused. “Whenever you feel ready, we will go in, I just want to make sure you guys are safe. There will be others who will fear you both because of your power.”
I looked over at Logan as he nodded. I knew he would agree to what I have to say. “We’ll wait until midnight, and then we should go in. It will give us time to learn more, but not long enough to be noticed.
Aunt Marie smiled. “Alright, let’s eat and fill your heads with as much knowledge as we can.”
I eyes fluttered open as I looked around. Everything seems different. All I saw was dark walls. All my senses felt heightened. I could see things I didn’t think I could ever imagine seeing.
Am I in heaven? Or is this hell? Whatever it is, I don’t ever want to leave, but then I thought of her. My Athena. I could fell my blood in my body start to warm up at even thinking about her.
I wanted to see her, but where am I? I got up from the floor I was laying on and walked closer until I heard someone walking by the door. I listened in as I could hear my mother’s voice. Was she dead? No, can’t be.
“I can’t believe we did this to him. I feel terrible.” She spokes as I heard her. I could hear her heartbeat fasten and my throat started to throb in pain. I was hungry, but for my mother?
“Savannah, we had to. He was dying and this was the only way to save him.” I recognized another voice, my father’s.
“A hybrid was really the only way? We could have sent him to the hospital and had them do their best to save them. You just want to make up for lost time.” A hybrid? What was my mother talking about?
“Our son is alive, honey. He will still alive until we pass on to the next world. He’ll be able to have a life, fall in love, and possibly have kids. He would’ve found out sooner if you didn’t lie to him about having cancer.” What was he talking about? I never had cancer. I was about done hearing this conversation.
I needed to find out answers, now. I tried to open the door, but it would’ve budged. “OW!” my hand started to burn, as I let it sit on the hande. I pulled it away and watched as my hand healed itself. “What the hell?”
What was going on with me? None of this was normal. What did they do to me? What am I? I looked around the room, seeing if I could find something to help me get out. Nothing. Nothing was in this room, but the blanket I was laying on.
I backed away from the door, took a deep breath and slammed into the door. It still wouldn’t break open. I turned around and saw a window, tried smashing that, still nothing. My blood boiled as I was furious at myself and my parents.
Pacing back and forth, I realized I still had my phone in my pocket. I quickly grabbed it and saw I had missed calls, voicemails, and messages. I quickly saw the first one from Athena:
Are you really gone? My heart is killing me. It aches and misses you.
Please, answer me. I can’t believe this is happening to me.
Ricky, I miss you.
My heart filled with joy that she still missed me, I tried to reply back, but I had no service. Damn it! Nothing is going right! I looked through more and more of the messages from Athena, but the last one really hurt.
Whether you are dead or alive, this is the last message I will send to you. It’s been about 2 weeks since you have been gone or haven’t responded. Thinking about your day and night has brought me nothing, but sadness. I don’t know why you are still on my mind, but I have to get you out of it. I need to be focused because today, I am finally going to cure my Aunt. You will always have a piece of my heart, but I will never stop thinking about you.
I threw the phone against the wall, as it broke into a bunch of little pieces. She thinks I’m dead and she doesn’t know the truth. More anger built up in my soul as I started pounding on the door.
“GET ME THE HELL OUT OF HERE!” I screamed. Still nothing, that was until I saw the door window open. I looked at my father with anger filled in my eyes. “What the fuck did you do to me?!”
“Hello, Son.” He gave me an evil smirk.
